Health

PNM hosted a ‘health Day’ that highlighted a need to divert resources to addressing a programme of preventative measures. This event was followed by a day of planning entitled ‘That Little Bit of Help’. This looked at low-level preventative strategies that could be adapted in the community in order to sustain independent living.

A combating drugs misuse project has been running in Poulton over the last few years with funding assistance from PNM. Inappropriate drug use is a major contributor to poor health. Criminal activity and unemployment has a wide range of proven links with drug use.  This project is about to be mainstream-funded by the Primary Care Trust.

A senior member of the North Lancashire Primary Care Trust sits of the PNM board of management to assist and advise on health issues.

A Mental Health Support Worker was funded for three years to help restore and develop self-esteem and confidence amongst local residents. The project aimed to improve mental health issues to reduce pressure on statutory services whilst sustaining independent living.

The Poulton Sports Academy and the Easter Soccer Skills School have benefits to health, as there are clear links between exercise and good health.

Through the ‘quick response’ fund PNM has contributed to:

  • A hand washing initiative in collaboration with Lancaster City Council’s Environmental Health department.

Neighbourhood management projects often cross over into more than one of our thematic areas. Health can often have an impact on jobs and training and also a knock on effect on crime and education.
