Crime
Crime, anti-social behaviour, and the fear of crime have a major impact on the quality of life for local residents. In recognition, Poulton Neighbourhood Management (PNM) works closely with Lancashire Constabulary to reduce criminal activity, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime.
The Geographic Inspector is a member of the Poulton Neighbourhood Management Board and attends monthly meetings.
A Neighbourhood Management staff member attends regularly at PACT (Police And Community Together) meetings, run by the local Community Beat Manager (CBM).
PNM work with the CBMs and the Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) on joint initiatives, such as the Poulton Sports Academy, which is a regular after school club for local primary school children.
PNM joint funds the Quick Response Vehicle to reduce the amount of dumped rubbish, which poses a fire risk. This rubbish is promptly removed.
PNM have helped fund alleygates to prevent public access to the rear of properties. Over 70% of burglaries take place at the rear of properties and alleygates are an excellent deterrent to this crime.
Through the ‘quick response’ fund PNM has contributed to:
- Security lighting for the Rainbow Centre to reduce vandalism and the incidents of anti-social behaviour.
- Posters for Crimestoppers
- Setting up Neighbourhood Watch schemes
- Security improvements to local businesses
- The production of a film to raise awareness of anti-social behaviour and underage drinking
Neighbourhood management projects often cross over into more than one of our thematic areas. Crime can often have an impact on health and the environment and also a knock on effect to education and jobs.
