Sanctuary created for local residents
Residents from Matthias Court are looking forwards to summer now that a private garden oasis has been created for them.

Matthias Court, a sheltered housing scheme run by Places for People, has 41 residents. Last year the residents spent £1500 in memory of a former resident at the scheme to provide seating for the residents to sit out and enjoy the area. Unfortunately, due to anti social behaviour in the area, some residents are unwilling to spend time there, due to criminal damage to property and verbal abuse they have been encountering from local youths. The new fencing and gates have made the area a private sanctuary for the residents to enjoy peace and quiet.
Coun Shirley Burns said: “This area was desperately in need of improvements. The residents were unable to sit out in the gardens for peace and quiet before as members of the public used the area to walk their dogs. With improved screening this is now a private area for residents only where they can look forwards to sitting out in the summer.”
Watch the Movie on Morecambe
A film to promote the positive improvements in Morecambe has been produced and has been sent all over the country.
Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Winning Back Morecambe’s West End commissioned the film to raise awareness of all the regeneration that has taken place over the last 5 years and to celebrate the communities’ achievement in taking part.
The film contains scenes from some of last years community events including the Tutti Frutti 1950s Festival and the Kite Festival, and lots of local people are interviewed on how they have been involved in the regeneration efforts. There are scenes including local landmarks such as the Winter Gardens and the Midland Hotel.
