Neighbourhood Management Is On A Roll
Following on the success of Poulton Neighbourhood Management, the West End will be starting a Neighbourhood Management project in April this year.
The scheme will have Β£1.6 million to spend over the following four years. This money comes from the Government through the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (the same as Poulton Neighbourhood Management) and is to be spent on regenerating the area whilst working closely with residents and partner agencies.
The staff here at Poulton Neighbourhood Management have been working very closely with members of the ‘Winning Back Morecambe’s West End’ team, and the West End Partnership, in sharing the principles of Neighbourhood Management and giving advice on the things we have learned during our time. Members of the Poulton Neighbourhood Management Board and the West End Partnership recently took part in a social evening to explain how their role in Neighbourhood Management works and how different projects have worked, and also for both groups to get to know each other.
Steve Matthews, Winning Back Morecambe’s West End Project Director, thinks that the Neighbourhood Management aspect of regeneration will complement the physical regeneration of the West End. He said: “Phase 1 of the West End Masterplan is very much about physical change, funding for Neighbourhood Management will allow us to tackle a much broader range of issues that are important to the local community.”
Poulton Neighbourhood Management has been operating for 4 years and has achieved excellent results in that time, and by using the model from Poulton and rolling it into the West End, many lessons can be learned and shared to ensure the future success of making Poulton and the West End a great place to live, work and play in.
Healthy Living In Poulton
Over the last few months, the Healthy Living Centre has been hard at work transforming the Memorial Hall in Poulton into a great venue for their sessions.
A new kitchen has been fitted with all modern appliances and lots of space for people to work in.
Dawn and Sam of the Healthy Living Centre are pleased to announce the re-opening and re-launch of their activities in the newly modernised kitchen. Activities will restart from Monday 13th February at the Memorial Hall and everyone is welcome to come along and join in.
Dawn and Sam wish everyone who attended sessions last year a very happy New Year and they look forward to seeing everyone soon.
The Healthy Living Centre would also like to thank Madelaine of Poulton Community Centre for making them feel welcome, accommodating them during the renovation work of the Memorial Hall and for all her hard work during this time.
