Blanco’s Pet Shop

Blanco’s Pet Shop on Queen Street has been looking after Poulton resident’s pets for 27 years. The shop opened in 1978 and sells most of the top brands of pet foods and accessories - everything you need for your beloved creatures. Blanco’s specialise in Aviary and cage birds, there’s plenty of choice from finches to parrots. There are many other small animals inside the shop, such as rabbits, gerbils, and coldwater fish. Two residents of the shop are Marmosets ‘Clyde’ and ‘Pixie’. Marmosets are the smallest of the New World primates and are native to South America. They are really cute looking with their little monkey-like faces, although they aren’t for sale as they are very difficult to look after, but they are adorable to watch as they swing around their cage.

One thing you can be assured of when shopping at Blanco’s is a friendly welcome. Shop owner, Ted Kerry said: “We are grateful to all of our customers, old and new, for their continued custom. Many of them are like old friends. Everyone is welcome to call in for a chat or advice on pet matters.”

Smalleys of Morecambe has been a well-known name in the area since 1961. The shop was originally known for selling cycles, but has now branched out to be specialists in the nursery retail trade. There are two floors packed with all of the essentials that you will need for your baby. Any new parent would be hard pushed not to find something here that isn’t perfect for their needs.

Husband and wife team Adrian and Vivienne bought the shop in January 1999. Adrian has worked in the shop for 35 years and brings a wealth of experience and when Vivienne joined him, she brought with her plenty of new ideas and a fresh outlook.

Vivienne said: “With a young family ourselves, we felt that we could give people good, honest advice, at first hand. Together we have made a lot of changes and improvements over the years.”
