Poultons Community Christmas

Poulton’s annual ‘Community Christmas’ was a festive affair back in December and everyone had a great time.

Local residents, Church leaders, school children, Poulton Neighbourhood Management and The Salvation Army Band gathered at the Poulton Arch in the park on Poulton Road and this year the Healthy Living Centre supplied some warm and tasty soup and mince pies to help fight off the frost bite!

There was carol singing accompanied by the Salvation Army Band and Christmas readings from local Churches as well as a children’s nativity tableau by the local primary school pupils from Poulton-le-Sands, St Mary’s and Morecambe Bay. The children also read a Christmas poem. This year, Morecambe High School also took part by narrating the Nativity. This event was organised by Poulton Neighbourhood Management.

Morecambe Townscape Heritage Initiative

The Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is the Heritage Lottery Fund’s grant giving programme for the repair and regeneration of the historic environment in towns and cities throughout the UK.

Restoring Poulton’s traditional shop fronts to their former Victorian glory is one of the key aims of the THI. Not only does this improve the appearance of our shopping streets, it also boosts trade, encourages further investment and engenders a sense of pride in the area.Further to our Summer report, work to ‘The Shrimp Shop’ in Poulton Square was successfully completed in the Autumn.

The transformation saw the property being re-roofed and rendered, with a new shop front, windows and cast iron rainwater goods being installed, all substantially grant aided by the THI.

For more information on the Morecambe THI and grant availability, please contact Kate Smith, Project Administrator on (01524) 582337 or visit the Council’s website at http://www.lancaster.gov.uk and search for ‘THI’.
