Construction Starts on Fisherman’s Square

Improvement works to Fisherman’s Square are scheduled to begin at the end of February.

The transformation will tie in modern landscaping design whilst remaining in keeping with Poulton’s heritage.
Because of the square’s association with Poulton’s fishing heritage we have commissioned a design which reflects our local history.  The scheme incorporates a thematic representation of Morecambe Bay and there are features such as the fishing boat seats which tie in the heritage of the fishing industry.  Within the concentric rings we would wish to put the symbol of Poulton, the three fishes.  This already appears on bollards within the Homezone, on a mural on Poulton Road, on the school uniforms of Poulton le Sands Primary School and is the emblem for Morecambe Parish Church and so it has a unique local identity.
Proposals for transforming this site had been planned during the HomeZone development. Unfortunately, there weren’t sufficient resources at the time to complete the scheme. We have now secured funds to landscape the square in line with our original proposals.  We are using the same contracting team, Cumbrian, that carried out the work on the Homezone and we know how well they worked in the past with the local community.
If you have any comments on details of the design please feel free to call in at the Poulton Neighbourhood Management office on Euston Road and have your views recorded. There is model version of the design in the office, call in if you would like to have a closer look.
