Anti-Bullying Scheme Wins Award
Pupils from Morecambe High School have received the Princess Diana Award for their excellent work around anti-bullying
.
Mentor Mates is a group of 18 pupils who carry out one-to-one sessions with other students offering advice and coping strategies to those who are suffering from bullying. The students also worked hard during Anti-Bullying Week by holding assemblies for the school to raise the profile of their initiatives. One of the group produced an anti-bullying questionnaire which was completed by almost all of the students at Morecambe High School. This research provided the group with information on the current situation of bullying and the systems in place within the school to deal with the problem.

Sue Boswell, Community Development Officer, Poulton Neighbourhood Management, said: “I arranged for the members of Mentor Mates to provide sessions at the local primary school for Year 6 pupils. In these sessions, the High School students reassured the younger pupils on the transition to big school, offering advice and a friendly face for what can be an intimidating time.”
Sue also added: “I would like to congratulate the students for all of their hard work and effort that they constantly put in to support their peers. They are a credit to our community and thoroughly deserve this award and on behalf of Poulton Neighbourhood Management, I would like to say a big thank you and well done.”
