Promoting Poulton’s Past
Due to the success of last year’s shopping and heritage guide, Neighbourhood Management has produced a new brochure for 2007.

‘A Guide to Shopping and History in the Traditional Heart of Morecambe’ features some of the specialist independent shops in Poulton to tempt visitors to shop locally and appreciate the delights of the historic village pointing out architectural gems such as the art deco buildings.
The shopping and history guide has a heritage trail starting at Lord Street, taking in Poulton Square and gives detailed information about the historic points of interest along the way. The trail continues along the promenade pointing out some of the specialist shops before walking back into the maze of streets off the sea front including Clarence Street, and visiting ‘Fisherman’s Square’ and the arts centre, Mona House. The trail goes on to the promenade to show visitors the Clocktower, the Eric Morecambe statue, the Winter Gardens, the Midland Hotel and ends by the stone jetty.
The guide includes a list of cafes and restaurants that will tempt the taste buds and quench a thirst brought on by walking the trail. The leaflet also includes a prize draw entry to win a weekend stay for two people in a hotel in Morecambe.
The brochure will be made available in local public buildings such as the Tourist Information Centres, Poulton Neighbourhood Management, the library, police station, Town Hall etc, as well as being distributed in local hotels and guest houses in the area. The shopping and history guide will be sent to Tourist Information Centres outside of the district to encourage shoppers and day visitors to Morecambe.
Shake Rattle and Roll! It’s the Tutti Frutti Festival
Get your glad rags on and join us for a festival celebrating the 1950s in Morecambe this summer.
The Tutti Frutti festival is set for Saturday 28th July, and will take Morecambe back to a time when rock and roll icons Elvis Presley and Bill Hayley were in their prime. Young girls swooned over James Dean whilst men desired Brigitte Bardot. Beehives were trendy barnets, the ‘teenager’ was invented and there was nation-wide celebration as rationing ended.
The festival takes place at The Platform and starts at 12 noon with a whole afternoon packed full of free entertainment. Turn up in Fifties fancy dress and you could win a special prize!
There will be vintage cars, stalls selling vintage goods, Punch and Judy shows, live music, including rock and roll band ‘Hot Wires’ and local band ‘Jive Hoot’, jive dancing classes so you can bop along to the music, lots of competitions including the ‘Fifties Factor’, a talent show to find the best ‘fifties’ sound-a-like, and so much more. To register an entry into the ‘Fifties Factor’, please contact Steve on 07771692626. The winner of the ‘Fifties Factor’ will be the opening act at the evening show.
The festival culminates in an evening show from 7pm at The Platform with the winner of the ‘Fifties Factor’ and 3 more live acts – all for only £8 per ticket. The show opens with a Buddy Holly tribute act singing classics such as ‘Peggy Sue’, then a tribute to Billy Fury will croon top hits including ‘Maybe tomorrow’ and ‘Halfway to Paradise’. The evening show will end with a nationally acclaimed four-piece rock and roll act ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight’.
Tickets are available to buy in advance from the Platform Box Office.
Contact Sue Boswell at Poulton Neighbourhood Management by telephone on 01524 425200 if you would like further information about the festival.
Poulton Neighbourhood Management are funding the event which couldn’t have been organised without the support and help from local residents and volunteers. DJ Steve Middlesborough and many local businesses have already pledged their support in making the festival a reality and to contributing to transporting the town back the fabulous fifties. This should be a fantastic event for Morecambe which needs support from local people, so come along on the day and shake rattle and roll.
