The Street Warden Service
Sadly, the funding for the Street Warden Service runs out in September. They are to be replaced by Community Support Officers who will be involved with environmental matters like the wardens but they will also have other duties related to police issues such as dealing with anti-social behaviour.
We hope to have a very productive relationship with the CSO’s and look forward to being engaged in joint pieces of work.
We would also like to recognise the extremely hard work done by the Street Warden Service over the last four years and on behalf of ourselves and the community, we would like to offer them our thanks and appreciation. They have become familiar ‘friends on the streets’ and have made a real difference in addressing key areas of Morecambe’s regeneration. It is anticipated that the new CSO’s will carry those skills forward.
The Arson Reduction Vehicle will continue to operate within Poulton, clearing away dumped rubbish which poses a fire risk.
Childrens’s Centre Opens
The former fire station on Clark Street has now been converted into a purpose built Children’s Centre and has been handed over by the contractors on time for the commencement of a full child care service this month. The Children’s Centre provides an innovative use for a redundant fire station and we are particularly pleased that this centre will benefit local pre-school children and their families.
A number of local residents have already had the opportunity to look around the centre and have been impressed by the facilities on offer.
The centre aims to be ‘good neighbour’ for Poulton residents and staff will try hard to ensure that the operation of the centre does not cause any issues or difficulties for local people.
