Willis Florists

image

Willis Florist started in 1934 by Isabel Willis and has continued to run as a family business ever since. Kath McVernon, who will be celebrating 35 years in the business on 30th November, currently runs the business. As a celebration of the 35-year milestone, Kath would like to invite all customers, past and present, to the shop for an anniversary drink of wine and there will also be 30% reductions on all stock on that day.

Willis Florists cater for all occasions and stock a wide variety of flowers, fresh and artificial. They also offer the worldwide ‘Interflora’ service. They have stock arriving daily bringing fresh flowers from around the world to Morecambe.

Kath has said this year has been particularly busy with weddings, and has just designed the flower arrangements for her Son’s wedding. She particularly enjoys weddings and this years’ trend seems to be for more modern hand-ties. However, she has also designed flowers for Royal occasions and visits to Morecambe. When she is not too busy running her shop, Kath is rubbing shoulders with members of the Royal family. In particular Kath remembers when she had to provide arrangements for the opening of the Post House Hotel on Caton Road. She said: “We were invited to provide the flowers for this special occasion. Prince Charles was there and all of the girls wanted to know who would get to sit next to him for dinner. A London chef cooked the food, it really was a superb day.”

Sounds Healthy

Sounds Healthy was set up in Poulton a year ago. It offers various therapies within complementary medicine. One of these therapies can usually help with stress, allergies, food sensitivities, irritable bowel syndrome, phobias, emotional problems, aches & pains, headaches, migraine, arthritis and similar ailments.
We can very often help children who are hyperactive.
This may be through a combination of:-

  • Recommending the elimination of materials that are harmful in the diet, and recommending the addition of certain supplements.
  • Therapy with hi-tech music and sound played through the whole body as shown in the illustration.

Sounds Healthy is set up as a voluntary organisation and funded by grants and donations as well as by fees from clients. They have just obtained a grant of £5000 from ‘Awards from All’ (part of the National Lottery funding). This will enable more local people who are disadvantaged to be treated for just as modest donation. Payments from those who can afford the normal fees (£25 for 50 minutes) or £40 for 90 minutes go into the kitty and this also enables Sound Healthy to help more disadvantaged people.

Sounds Health is a branch of ETSAM. The other branch is concerned with helping hard of hearing and deaf people to hear music more clearly and enjoyably.
