Free Sailing Taster Sessions From Morecambe and Heysham Yacht Club
Morecambe & Heysham Yacht Club have purchased a training dinghy with the assistance of a grant from Poulton Neighbourhood Management and they are offering Poulton residents free taster sessions.
The sessions are open to anyone over the age of 14 years - but a dinghy is not a place for the faint hearted! No previous experience of sailing is necessary, just a keen interest is all that’s required.
There are limited sessions available throughout the winter. For more details or to find out when the next session is, please call John Hodgson on 01524 853737, or email him: john@hodgson55.freeserve.co.uk

Youths get Activ8-ed
Young people from our neighbourhood took part in an exciting summer scheme called Activ8.
The activity sessions were offered to young people aged between 8 and 18 and was held at Morecambe High School. The sessions involved different kinds of sports and games which were agreed upon with the youngsters taking part.
From the beginning of the scheme, those taking part were encouraged to develop a ‘code of conduct’ which would set out the boundaries of what behaviour was acceptable. They developed a penalty system for not upholding the ‘code of conduct’, which consisted of a card system - a yellow card would be issued in the first instance, then a red card and finally a final warning. Serious breaches of the code would have meant that the individual would have to leave the session with further sanctions to follow.
Good behaviour such as helping a teammate was rewarded with prizes including footballs and flags. They were also invited to join other local children and Poulton Neighbourhood Management on a trip to the City of Manchester Stadium for the North West Street Games 2005.
The project was organised by Signposts and Adam Smith, Recreation Officer for Poulton Neighbourhood Management helped run some of the sessions. The group taking part in the sessions were recruited through a referral system from some of the local schools. The schools contacted pupils who they thought would benefit from such a scheme and passed the details on to their parents and also to Signposts.
